Holiday Party OOTN

Over the weekend I attended my company’s holiday party at Cuvee  lounge in Chicago, IL. I was a little skeptical at first given the low ratings on Yelp, but ended up having a BLAST! The DJ was on point, there was plenty of seating, and the drinks on the special menu were so good!

Anywho, I decided to do a quick post on my Outfit Of The Night (OOTN) and glam because I was so pleased with how it all came together.

1. Hair & Makeup

Since I planned on wearing a fit-and-flare dress with a cat-eye, I wanted to stick to the vintage theme with a retro hairstyle. So, I parted my hair to the side and curled each section going away from my face with a Cortex 1.25″ flat iron. After I curled my hair, I lightly finger combed it back, and then pushed the curls back in place before spraying them with hairspray (L’Oreal Lock It Bold Control Hairspray).

I kept the makeup very simple to avoid that awk moment when no one recognizes you outside of your normal look LOL (it’s definitely happened to me before). I lined my upper eyelids with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Brow pen in Medium Brown, then layered a black eye shadow to my lash line only with an angled brush. My reason for this is that a brown wing is softer than a classic black but still gives the effect of an elongated winged eye. And the black shadow in the lash line creates the appearance of thicker lashes. On the skin I used Becca’s Ever-Matte Foundation in Amber, Make Up For Ever’s Full Cover Concealer in #12, Cover FX’s Pressed Mineral Powder as a contour in N90, and Urban Decay’s Afterglow 8hr Powder Blush in Medium Pink. To complete the look, I applied NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen to my lips!

2. The Outfit

Dress

The mixed print fit-and-flare dress that I wore was sold at Lord and Taylor’s for $118 but I got it for $34 at TJ MAXX a couple months ago! 🙂 The top is super stretchy, and the bottom of the dress has a nice structure to it. But I have to admit, it looked a bit maternity without a belt dividing the two fabrics.

I originally paired my dress with some gray suede Steven by Steven Madden pumps that I got from Saks Off 5th last year but changed into my ol’ trusty  Mary Jane’s (Cole Haan ‘Melinda Air’) once my feet started to hurt – these shoes are like 7+ years old but I cant let them go… they are so comfy. Plus, the black shoes helped tie in my black waist belt better!

3. Accessories

I’m usually not an accessories person but I received this beautiful Nocturne necklace as a birthday gift from a friend back in September. It’s so artsy and unique – I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to wear it! To complete the accessory category, I chose black pearl earrings with a diamond accent, and a bracelet style watch by Movado.

Unfortunately, I had too much fun at the party and didn’t get a chance to take a full body pic in good lighting, but I have one from the end of the night!

So how did I do guys!? What was your fav part of the look? I think the statement necklace was my fav!
