The Skin Care Routine That Has Everyone Asking Questions

For the first time in my life, I am GLOWING guys!! And although I AM in a very good place, I owe all the credit to my latest skin care routine! Curious about what I’m using? Keep reading…

For starters, I remove all of my makeup with Neutrogena’s fragrance free makeup remover wipes. Then, I rinse my face with room temperature water, and start to lightly buff Murad’s AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser onto my skin. I really like the way this cleanser makes my skin look and feel. It has three exfoliating acids (salicylic acid, lactic acid, and glycolic acid) and jojoba skin-polishing beads in it. After two days, I noticed that my skin was smoother, softer, and appeared to be more hydrated. Not going to lie, I was a little nervous to try this at first as my dermatologist always told me to steer clear of face scrubs (they tend to irritate acne more) but the scrubbing component in this wash is so gentle, similar to a sugar scrub. After about 30 sec to 1 min, I rinse my face with cold water to close my pores.

Once I am done washing the day (or night) off, I spray my face with Mario Badescu’s Aloe, Herb and Rosewater Facial Spray and let that absorb for a couple minutes. I like to apply this spray directly after washing because all of the exfoliators in Murad’s AHA/BHA Cleanser makes my skin produce more oil than usual. By adding some moisture back into my skin right after cleansing, it seems to help my skin from trying to combat dryness. Anywho, I then move on to moisturizing and/or treating my problem spots:

  • In the morning: I mix my Cetaphil moisturizer with Philosophy’s Turbo Booster C Powder (it comes with a tool to measure the correct amount). Cetaphil is great for sensitive skin, and the 99.8% potency in the Turbo Booster C Powder will take it to a whole new level; giving you all of the benefits of a vitamin C serum (brighter, smoother and younger looking skin).
  • In the evening: I apply Tazorac or Finacea cream (both are prescription products) to my active breakouts, and apply Cetaphil moisturizer everywhere else. If you are unable to get your hands on Tazorac or Finacea (or feel these products just don’t work for you in general), another good product you can get in stores is Kate Somerville’s EradiKate™ Acne Treatment… All are great options that will dry out your pimples in no time. Now, if you feel your skin is getting too flaky, or it burns when you apply your treatment of choice, you may want to apply it every other day as burning/flaking is a sign that the product is too strong and drying out your skin. You could also try to mix in a little moisturizer with your Tazorac/Finacea to neutralize it a bit.

Lastly, I have also started taking an Amino Acid (AA) called L-Lysine once a day. L-Lysine is a building block of protein and is found in common foods like beans, cheese, yogurt, meat (obviously), and milk. Since our bodies cannot make this AA, we must get it through our diet. L-Lysine helps the body produce antibodies, absorb and conserve calcium, as well as repair skin tissues. I first learned about this from Organic Olivia on YouTube. Alright, that’s it for now. My skin is still a work in progress, but it is coming along nicely with this regimen!!
